History of San Luis Parish

San Luis Gonzaga Parish Church, commonly known as San Luis Church, is a prominent 19th-century Baroque structure located in Brgy. Poblacion, San Luis, Pampanga. Originally founded in the early 18th century, it has long served as a cornerstone of the Catholic faith in the community, named after St. Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron saint of youth, reflecting its role in spiritual growth and religious instruction.

The church's façade displays a predominantly Baroque style, characterized by its rugged and heavy appearance. Notable Renaissance influences can be seen in the twin belfries. The main portal, recessed and flanked by two ornamented niches for statues of saints, features a papal symbol relief. Stone balusters decorate the window on the façade, along with the blind windows and the pediment base. History of Arayat Parish

Sta. Catalina Church, located in Arayat, Pampanga, is a 3-level Renaissance-style structure that has been recognized as one of the most beautiful churches in the province. The town of Arayat itself, established as early as the 14th century, became a prominent riverine trade hub by 1571. The Augustinians began evangelizing in the area, and on August 29, 1590, Bishop Domingo Salazar approved the establishment of the first mission, led by Fray Juan de Valderrama. By 1600, the parish was firmly founded under Fray Contreras.

The church, dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria, a 4th-century virgin-martyr, was originally constructed from stone and brick in 1753. The first recorded baptism was performed in 1758 by Fray Villalobos. Major reconstruction efforts were undertaken by Fray Jose Torres in 1858, and later continued by Fr. Juan Tarrero, who was unfortunately affected by the Philippine Revolution. The work was completed in 1892 under Fr. Urbano Beduya.

History of Candaba Parish

The Convent of Candaba was established on May 3, 1575, and initially annexed to Calumpit under Father Francisco de Ortega. It became a missionary center for the Augustinian Friars, preaching to Arayat and Santa Ana with permission from Bishop Domingo de Salazar. The convent once housed the Estudio de Gramatica school before it moved to Lubao, and later served as a refuge for philosophy students from San Agustin Monastery during the British Occupation of 1762.

By 1591, Candaba likely had parochial structures made of light materials. Father Jose de la Cruz is credited with commissioning the construction of a stone church from 1665 to 1669. In 1875, Father Felipe Guevara built a grímpola and belfry, while Father Esteban Ibeas added a dome in 1878. The church has undergone several renovations to preserve its structure and historical significance.
